If you have more than 10 minutes before a 5A or Flyer bus arrives (likely with their woeful headways), detour upstairs to appreciate Eero Saarinen's beautiful, soaring ceiling while you wait.

SaraИюнь 13, 2015Customs etc. was very fast even though you have to remove shoes, hats, outerwear etc. Rechecking bags from international transfers was smooth too.
As of March 2012, DC's two airports (DCA and IAD) are the only two places where you can try the breakfast menu at Five Guys Burgers and Fries. It's worth traveling to another terminal for.
Passport control/Customs can be a nightmare here. If you fly in to here a lot from overseas Global Entry program totally worth it.
Come early and take your shoes off when going through the TSA screening!
Thanks to incomplete expansion, it's often quicker to get to Terminal C by taking the shuttle to Terminal D and walking.
Leigh RawlsОктябрь 14, 2013You can park at one of the nearby hotels rather than airport's longterm parking for a much cheaper price. (You don't have to have stayed at the hotel to do this either). Shuttles included in price.

Huge airport, lots of traveling from terminal to terminal, fuddruckers is great in the international terminal (A I think)

If you are on a long connection, look for the Sleep lounge on terminal A. A tad over priced but might be worth it depending on your itinerary. 😉

Crazy long line for the Airport taxis. Booked a ride with @taximagic, and the cab was waiting at United departures (door 4) by the time I arrived there (from Wash Flyer line to upper level door 4)

Air france lounge in A (on the end nearest B) is lovely. Quiet, good food, gracious. And available to anyone who belongs to Delta Skyclub too!

Some restaurant options beyond central gate entrance area. Prices reasonable at about typical restaurant levels so long as you don’t buy food or snack from newsstands at inflated prices.
Dulles is the largest airport for no discernible reason I have ever visited. There are several restaurant options, and the airport is nice enough. It is a huge airport, though.

Neil CИюнь 14, 2017Definitely the best of the US airports. You don't have to redo security if you have a connecting flight and lots more facilities in the terminal.
The airport is deceivingly large. Be sure to add a little extra time if you are flying out of the D gates as the busses run a little slower than the trams.

One of my favorite US airports. Nice restaurants, good gift shopping and most importantly free wifi.

For international arrivals plan on 60-90 minutes to ride train or shuttle to main terminal and get through customs. Add another 30 to get to your car in the economy parking lot. Welcome to the USA!
If you are taking a flight that will mean you need to pass through security before 5am...get there extra early. The beefed up Security crew doesn't come online till about 5am!

Guido GybelsСентябрь 2, 2016If arriving on an ESTA with a passport previously used with ESTA, using machines = much quicker immigration process. Baggage handling is often slow. Your bag may appear on the floor next to the belt.
Schedule yourself around rush hour the morning and late afternoon traffic around hear is a full-on methadone withdrawal induced NIGHTMARE.
