If you take United and get stuck overnight (very likely with United) make sure you pick up an overnight lot from them. Check their luggage claim office.
Don't take SuperShuttle...you may have to wait 30-60 minutes for a van even with a reservation. Take the MetroBus or WashingtonFlyer bus to Metrorail instead....its cheaper and faster to the city.
If you have a long layover go to the air and space museum. 12 minute shuttle ride from airport 1 USD round trip and soooo much more interesting than staring at a billboard
If you need to ride one of the shuttle buses to immigration/customs, stay by the entry door for a swift exit. That'll help you in getting in front of the crowd in the passport check lines.
Five Guys has the best cheeseburgers. There's two locations: one in Terminal A and one in Terminal B. If you plan to have fries, you're better off with a single patty.
The new AeroTrain between terminals is slower than the "mobile lounge" by 10 mins; You can still take the mobile lounge. If in C/D across from gate D14. On the other side between A/B concourse (A8)
If you're TSA Pre and traveling with someone who is not go to pre check and your companion can use the neighboring aisle....faster than the downstairs mess!!!
The story goes: George Washington (middle name Dulles) built this airport out of cherry trees and freedom during the Great Depression. The movie Soul Plane provides a historically accurate portrayal.
If you're stuck in small airplane part of concourse A for a while, take the escalators towards B. There are far better amenities & quiet in the Int'l section of A.
The B Gates food court has an indoor smoking lounge right next to it, forcing diners to have exposure to the awful, second smoke sneaking in from the lounge. Take your meal to your gate.
The "mobile lounges" need to go. There's nothing worse than being the first off a flight only to get dumped out into one of these infernal diesel-fume-filled relics that waits 20+ minutes to leave.
As someone who lives in Maryland I honestly hate driving to IAD but... The long distance non-stops make up for the misery. #HowQuicklyWeForgetPain #MdPeopleHateDrivingOverTheBridgeToVa
When arriving on an international flight, try to stay at the front of the mobile loungebus. This will put you in pole position to not have as long a passport line (unless 2 other 747s just unloaded!)
Well, like others said, the best place on this airport is FIVE GUYS. Also, other thing to avoid about this airport: UNITED AIRLINES, they will always screw you up !
