Stefano 🦪: Al the area is into the National Park. No fee if you stay on the coast, but if you want to hike, you have to pay the admission ticket.
Stu: There are hipster gelaterias with weird flavors, but I liked this old-school place the best for both the gelato and decor. It’s between the Trevi Fountain and Pantheon, so you can stop here for a snack. I recommend the amaretto flavor.
Ray: Shelley - Then there is my favorite gelateria is and will always be Giolitti on Via degli Uffici del Vicario, 40. I guess I just like their recipe (there are so many good gelaterie but its like home cooking, all is good but one has one's favorite version). It's near the Pantheon and Piazza Colonna.
Ray: Three generations of women cooking pasta. One of the best I've had. Really simple dishes.
Ray: Classic italian restaurant. They take your jacket off for you, pull out the chair, all that. Chef comes out and asks you what you like to eat and creates a menu for you on the spot. Probably the best meal I had in Italy
Ray: ErinP: phenomenal, recommend a res if possible. It's on the "other" side of the river and to me is the can't miss spot of the trip!
Ray: Anna & Mikhail: Our favorite gelato place in Rome. It's very central, nearby Piazza Navona (which is absolutely gorgeous). That gelato is amazing, you need to try it!! :)
Ray: Jess - Go to the courtyard and have a bloody mary. The bartender won a world award for it.
Ray: Isabel: known for cacio e pepe in cheese bowl!! They do not speak much english because its a local joint!!
Ray: Adrian: you should go get champagne and oysters at their bar before dinner one night -- or splurge and get dinner there! (absolutely gorgeous views)
Ray: Adrian - it's a must as well, on top of Positano it's a very romantic restaurant with the best pasta in town. Call ahead and they will provide transportation to get up there.
Ray: Nicco - Charming Restaurant, good Italian kitchen with a touch of creativity, a bit expensive
Ray: Alessandro Vitelli - not too far from your airbnb, pricey but awesome, used to go there every sunday with my family
Ray: Alessandro Vitelli - in the jewish ghetto, also go there for a day to just walk around, there's the old fish market and the synagogue, and when you get hungry go here for some artichokes and some baccala
Ray: Alessandro Vitelli - not in a very touristy area, mainly offices, but it's definitely worth the travel, they have the best carbonara, used to go there every saturday after school
Ray: Alessandro Vitelli - a personal favorite, not exactly for the food but for the location, it's in front of one of my favorite churches in rome, Sant'Ignazio, that you have to visit, and once you're in keep your eyes up and walk down the aisle for a surprise

Ray: Alessandro - This is a special one, they serve Grattachecca a typically roman dessert which is basically minced ice with fresh fruit and juices and this is a historical place filled with roman people
Ray: Alessandro - my father used this to motivate me before important school days (like tests and such): "don't worry, when you're done I'll take you here and you can have a big cone"
Ray: Alessandro - it's behind piazza navona, and close to the pantheon so you can go for a nice walk and then end your night here with a nice drink, it's a mix of hipsterness and tradition, full of young people that sit next to old men playing chess
Ray: Alessandro - other classic meetup place for romans, when in trastevere this is a must, go there for a negroni or a simple peroni in the 66cl bottle and drink it in front of the church in piazza maria in trastevere
Ray: Alessandro - it's a speakeasy close to your place, super nice inside, but sometimes a bit crowded, maybe go during the weekdays to enjoy it even more
Ray: Alessandro - other classical roman bar in San Lorenzo which is a very young and lively neighbourhood, nice to just roam around bars and stop wherever you like the vibe

Ray: Alessandro - go here when in Monti for a cold beer or a glass of wine, you'll notice it because the facade is covered in ivy
Ray: Alessandro - it's in the middle of il Pincio which is one of Rome's nicest parks, perfect to go for a walk in the afternoon
Ray: Lindsey - always a wait outside go early around 5pm but you MUST go! order the tagliatelle ragu and the tiramisu

Ray: Shelley - There are so many traditional dishes. Many of the antipasti are fried so it depends on your digestion. The "sfizi" are good, cariciofo alla giudea (fried artichoke). The pizza there is good -- I always like the simple "marghertia" (tomato basil cheese). Pasta dishes typical to Rome are spaghetti alla carbonara, or alla gricia (sort of like carbonara but without the pancetta (bacon), pasta alla amatriciana. One of my favorites is tonarelle or bucatine a cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper).
Ray: Shelley - Then there is the pizzeria on Via Flaminia near Piazzale delle Belle Arte. Again many different friends know this. Some of Gianfranco's older friends even when there as teenagers in the 50s when they were dating. Then this was one of the first local places my pharmacist friend heard of when moving to that neighborhood, etc. etc.
