The scramble with basil is out of this world... I have dreams about it. Also, the brew over ice coffee is like crack and makes me bug out, but it's also the most delicious in the neighborhood!
Project Latte: a NYC cafe culture guideАвгуст 1, 2013The old Cafe Royal has become Cafe Edna. Wifi is much improved, there are lots of plugs, and a full food menu. Coffee is courtesy of Toby's Estate. Great, quiet place to work.

New owners, now called Cafe Edna. Awesome outdoor seating, friendly staff, delicious egg wraps still the same.

My favorite coffee in this area. The food looks awesome, but I haven't tried it yet.

Maxime KolinoОктябрь 13, 2014Be careful! They're really able to spoil your day charging $55 tips from $6 order and fixing it pretty lame if (!) you suddenly notice it. Bad coffee. Soy milk just made it worse. My last time there.
Sad. They revamped the place and in doing so lost a huge amount of character. No more mix n match chairs or funky school desks. The metal tables and dark wood chairs seem West Elm-ish.
Wifi is now limited to number of hours versus the amount of money you spend (I.e $10 for 2 hours of wifi.) It's stupid slow and shows crazy packet loss. Time to find a new place to work, over it.

Iced coffee is great for summer and the peppermint patty is amazing in the winter!

Tara TaraСентябрь 25, 2014I have officially stopped going here because of the untrained staff and their disappointing (lousy) espresso drinks. Do not - I repeat - do not order anything made w/ espresso or you will regret it.- The back/side door in the room with all the tables doesn't open; despite the postit that says so, 95% of patrons will try unsuccessfully.
- The veggie sausage breakfast burrito is dope and cost-effective!
Try the orange brioche, it's light and fluffy but also filled with the glorious sin of gooey custard!
try the quiche with a soy chai and sit outside with friends. Great Brunch!
Laurie BurkittИюль 9, 2010Stick to the drinks here. The food, while it looks appetizing and so promising, leaves much to be desired. Portions are small and the flavor doesn't warrant the prices. Coffee, however, is fantastic!

Seems like a def improvement over cafe royal. No one is here, but can imagine in a few weeks it might be very decent and busy.
Note that the hours are only 'til 9pm, despite what these other tips say.
Best chai lattes - hot or iced. And get the duck confit (wow)

Vegan breakfast burritos are my fav.- Great hot coffee, French pressed
Kombucha on tap makes my day every time
It's just Cafe Royal, now with better coffee
The spicy simple syrup goes great with their chai.
