No matter what airline you fly. Go through security at Terminal 1. It's much faster and all terminals are connected on the other side
If you fly with United from SFO they WILL check your carry-on size. So make sure your bags don't exceed the max of 45 linear inches or check your bag, or fly with another airline! ;-)
